Weis Vineyards Announces Acquisition of Caywood Vineyards,
Renaming Historic Site Weis-Fournier Vineyard
Hammondsport, NY – January 2026 – Weis Vineyards is excited to announce the acquisition of
the former Caywood Vineyards, marking a significant milestone in the winery’s continued
growth and long-term commitment to the Finger Lakes wine region. The historic property will
now be known as Weis-Fournier Vineyard. Located on the east side of Seneca Lake, the vineyard encompasses 182 acres total, with 141 acres currently planted. Plantings at the site began in the early 1970s under the direction of Charles Fournier and have been meticulously and sustainably maintained in
recent years by the Doyle family. Today, the vineyard stands as one of the largest contiguous vinifera plantings on the East Coast featuring mature vines that have contributed to some of the best wines
produced in the Finger Lakes over several decades.
The acquisition enables Weis Vineyards to expand its estate wine program while also preserving
the vineyard’s long-standing role as a premier grape source for winemakers throughout the
region. Weis Vineyards plans to continue supplying high-quality fruit to fellow producers,
reinforcing collaboration and shared excellence within the Finger Lakes wine community.
“We couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to dive into this next chapter, and we’re so
thankful to be able to share that with the many people who have supported us along the way”
said Peter and Ashlee Weis. “We are honored to carry forward the legacy established by Charles
Fournier and thoughtfully stewarded by the Doyle family.”
Weis-Fournier Vineyard will play a central role in the winery’s ongoing focus on terroir-driven,
sustainably farmed vinifera grapes and reflects Weis Vineyards’ long-term vision for
