Rooftop Reds, for its 2023 season, is teaming up with Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery to raise funds for displaced children and families affected by the War in Ukraine.
Rooftop Reds, a rooftop vineyard located in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, will have a Ukrainian-inspired wine flight, exclusively produced and supported by a generous wine donation from Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery, available for guests. Rooftop Reds will donate 25% of all sales from this specific wine flight to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) for Ukrainian refugees. It is our collective belief that we all have a role to play in fighting injustice and suffering and that no effort, large or small, is unjustified.
Dr. Konstantin Frank, the founder of Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery, was a Ukrainian refugee himself during World War II. Before this, Dr. Frank earned his Ph.D. in Viticulture while studying in Odessa, Ukraine in 1930. After emigrating to the United States in 1951, he quickly recognized the potential of the Finger Lakes in Western New York as a world class wine-producing region. Dr. Frank committed the rest of his life to transforming the Finger Lakes into the grape growing and winemaking powerhouse it is today.
In correlation with Rooftop Reds, Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery will be offering a Ukrainian-inspired wine flight in their casual outdoor tasting area, Eugenia’s Garden, for the season. The winery will donate 25% of all proceeds of this flight to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) for Ukrainian refugees. Eugenia’s Garden is named after Eugenia Frank, the wife of Konstantin Frank, who founded the winery with him in 1962.
Rooftop Reds is a subsidiary business of Point of the Bluff Vineyards, next to Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery on the west side of Keuka Lake. Both entities could not imagine a more appropriate collaboration to highlight our commitment to agriculture, sustainability, and world justice.
Rooftop Reds also plans on marking the conclusion of its 2023 season with a Ukrainian Day event. On this day, slated to be held in late October, we will unveil the accumulated donation amount from our collective Ukrainian wine flight sales and celebrate Ukrainian culture, wine and history.
