The Riesling Summit 2009

The 2009  Riesling Summit held on Tuesday May 5, 2009 at the Astor Center (The Gallery at Astor Center) in New York City was a resounding success.   Mary Ewing-Mulligan, M.W., guided a tasting seminar for media and trade attendees titled " A Comparative Tasting of Finger Lakes Rieslings with other Rieslings from Germany, France, Australia and Washington".

Attendees were able to taste and compare some of the best Finger Lakes Rieslings with those Rieslings from other great wine producing regions.  Jim Tresize, the president of the New York Wine and Grape Foundation, introduced the International Riesling Foundation's Riesling Taste Profile and made a compelling case that use of the profile by producers would provide consumers with far greater clairty in selecting their preferred style of Riesling.  The tasting sparked thoughtful and engaging commentary by the audience.
