Apellation

Established in October of 1982, the Finger Lakes AVA (American Viticultural Area) is the largest wine-growing region in New York State with approximately 11,000 acres of labrusca (native), French-American and vinifera (European) grapes and just over 100 wineries. The region is oftentimes compared to that of Germany’s Rhine region due to similarities in growing conditions. Bitterly cold winters, short growing season, and an abundance of steeply sloped vineyards leading down to deep, crystal blue lakes are just a few of the commonalities. And also like the Rhine, the star of the show here in the Finger Lakes is Riesling, although we have gained recognition for many of our other varietals including Gewurztraminer, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay and Ice Wine.

Our lakes include Canandaigua Lake, Keuka Lake, Seneca Lake and Cayuga Lake.  Each lake boasts of its own unique viticultural characteristics lending to unique flavor profiles reflected in its varietals.
